The Internet Personified: shine bright like a diamond
This week I have spent Writing-with-a-capital-W which means I didn't go anywhere or see anything that was not the walls and windows of my study. Trying to finish a book which means I'm going puffa-puffa puffa-puffa like a marathon runner up a hill, but I do not yet spy the downhill slope. When I'm writing books (and I can say that now without feeling like a fraud. Books? Me? Write? What?) I like to read and watch easy things, so I've been feeding myself short stories or crime thrillers or watching House MD on my free trial of Netflix. (I've also got a free trial of Hotstar--because they're showing the Olympics apparently--and the selection there looks vastly better and cheaper than Netflix.) Still, it feels somewhat monastic to live the way I do--lots of occupying work, clean living, up in the morning with an alarm, yoga some days, it's like a writing retreat, except I'm at home. Highly recommended.
This week in food and drink: Of course, since it is now the weekend, I decided to Go Out And Do Fun Things Like A Young Person. Yesterday, at 4S with my friend, we managed to get a table upstairs by squeaking in juuuuust before 9 pm. The waiter asked where I'd been. "I've moved verrrry far away," I told him, but was so gratified at being remembered I left him a hefty tip. Forgot how much I liked 4S. Never again, 4S! I shall be a regular again! Closer to home, the best cheap-drinks-and-a-good-seat is good ol' TC, but one needs to have friends ready to indulge one in one's pursuits of dive-y places. 4S is sort of journalist trendy, but TC takes a little more convincing. I like to think I was the first person to discover 4S since I used to drink there during my college days in the early noughties before the redesign, but feel free to make the same claim yourself.
Last weekend for brunch, after suggesting and rejecting many options (it's a WhatsApp group with four intelligent women who cannot.seem.to. make.a. plan. What is wrong with us?) we finally decided on Hungry Monkey. Great Sunday deals on cocktails--1099 gets you unlimited cocktails, beer, wine, and sangria, level up includes all these with sparkling, level down is beer and wine. And the cocktails were really good too! Of course, we also ordered the entire menu, so we spent all our money, but if you go with a great thirst, it's definitely VFM as my corporate friends would say.
This week in stuff I wrote:** On farting in front of your lover for the first time. ** Why we need sex ed, sexperts and all that jazz **
Music of the week: An oldie but a goodie: Summer In The City by The Lovin' Spoonful. "Don't you know it's a pity, that the days can't be like the nights."
Reading list: Went to a party once where secret group 2 was discussed. I think it's called Fabric? IDK, I'm not a member obvs. ** Underrated books in India! I will always click on this kind of headline ** That time Bobby Deol tried to be a DJ ** I would totally like to see these cat-Hindu gods paintings but as always the Hindu right wing has to RUIN EVERYTHING. ** What happens when you get your period at work. ** On online piracy and the legalities involved, I like this story not just because I live with the author **
Have a great week!
