I have had accent issues pretty much all my life. When I went to University in Pune after schooling in multiple convent/seminary-based schools in Kerala, my Hindi accent was too influenced by English. Then when I lived in the UK it was too American-influenced-Indian. After that I lived in a bunch of European countries where no matter if I spoke German or French or Spanish, everything was English-accented no matter how much I tried (I think my colleagues might have been exaggerating a little though). Finally now I'm in the U.S. where my Anglo-Indian accent is way too English to the point where I have to fake an American accent when I have to talk to people while at a store or something (I am an excellent accent-faker by now). But I have to say, at least initially, it was a relief not to have to translate everything to another language inside my head before speaking out loud !!!
