This was such a sobering (and maybe a little sad) read. I don't share your fondness for Twitter but I do mourn the loss of blogs as a space for conversations and sharing life's foibles. I remember feeling so very seen and heard and validated and making many online friends back in the day through blogs. Substack seems the last bastion of that though I feel not enough writers engage in conversation in the comments. Lovely that your newsletter still exists. It's beautiful. <3
Since I wrote this, I've been learning to do without, and this means sending voice notes to friend WhatsApp groups and keeping small observations for in-person meetings, but also I've been posting more on Bluesky which is not great in terms of engagement but it feels like... SOMETHING. At least I still have this space. :) thank you for reading.
